MELAKA, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has been officially selected as a strategic partner of the WorldSkills Malaysia Agency on the global stage, attaining recognition as a WorldSkills Malaysia Centre of Excellence (COE) in digital technology.
In a statement today, UTeM said Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad presented the certificate recognising the achievement to Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FTMK) dean Prof Dr Mohd Sanusi Azmi at a recent ceremony at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre in Selangor.
FTMK student Chuan Ming Xuan was honoured at the ceremony with a certificate and silver medal presented by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong for his exceptional performance at the technical skills competition at WorldSkills Asia Taipei 2025.
In the same statement, UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin said the recognition positioned UTeM as a key reference centre in two critical skills disciplines, namely mobile application development and cloud computing.
She said that the recognition demonstrated UTeM’s commitment and capability in producing highly skilled workers up to international standards, thereby contributing to the development of the country’s technical human capital.
“Through this achievement, UTeM continues to stand tall as the premier public technical university for technical and vocational education and training (TVET), advancing independently in implementing related training programmes more widely.
“At the same time, this milestone facilitates UTeM in securing additional budget and allocations to further enhance its facilities and amenities on a larger scale,” she said.
Commenting on Chuan’s success, Massila said the achievement was the outcome of the teaching approach, expertise, and commitment demonstrated by a team of national trainers and experts from UTeM.
She said that UTeM, and FTMK in particular, has a team of national experts, such as senior lecturer Yahya Ibrahim, together with national trainers Maslita Abd Aziz and Nor Mas Aina Md Bohari.
Massila added that the group also played a key role in preparing Malaysian students to compete in ASEAN, Asian, and world-level skills competitions, underpinning the nation’s success in the WorldSkills arena.
