SLOVENIA OFFERS YEAR RICH OF CULTURE, OUTDOOR ADVENTURES FOR MEANINGFUL 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- The Slovenian Tourist Board is inviting travellers and storytellers to explore Slovenia in 2026, a year set to feature major cultural milestones, outdoor adventures and experiences that celebrate slow and meaningful travel.

According to the board in a statement, the country showcases a diverse range of attractions, from centuries-old traditions and world-class architecture to cycling legends and new remote-work offerings, stretching from the Alps to the Adriatic.

One of the year’s highlights is the Škofja Loka Passion Play, which returns from March 21 to April 19, 2026. Staged once every six years, the mediaeval town transforms into a large open-air theatre where more than a thousand locals reenact an 18th-century dramatic procession recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

In Bled, the Muzej Lah, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, will open in summer 2026. The new cultural landmark will house the Lah Collection and blend Alpine surroundings with contemporary art and design.

The board also spotlighted Ptuj, Slovenia’s oldest town, which has been named Europe’s Best Cultural Heritage Town 2026. Known for its Roman heritage and vibrant festivals, including Kurentovanje—the largest Shrovetide carnival recognised by UNESCO—Ptuj remains one of Slovenia’s most atmospheric historic towns.

Moreover, sport enthusiasts can look forward to the European Road Cycling Championships, set to take place in Ljubljana from Oct 3 to 7, 2026, offering visitors a chance to explore Slovenia’s world-class cycling routes.

A wave of openings across the country—including the Kneipp-inspired NaturHotel Snovik and Slovenia’s first family hotel in Olimje—will further expand the country’s boutique hospitality offerings.

New Slovenia Unique Experiences will invite visitors to slow down and connect with local culture, with activities such as mushroom foraging in Bovec, exploring the preserved 19th-century Pelikan photography studio in Celje, learning about the UNESCO-listed Krokar virgin forest in Kočevsko, and discovering the world of beekeeping in Novo Mesto.

For those seeking a blend of work and travel, Slovenia is also introducing a digital nomad visa, making it easier for remote workers to live and work amid the country’s natural landscapes.
