KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- The 2025 Safe Internet Campaign has been successfully rolled out in 8,462 schools nationwide, reaching more than 369,000 students as of Nov 30, said Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin.

He said the campaign will continue next year to sustain ongoing efforts to protect students and raise awareness of online threats.

“The campaign, which was launched in January, is a key initiative to educate the public on staying safe online, from using strong passwords to spotting scams, deepfakes and misinformation.

“It not only raises awareness but also provides training modules, learning materials and face-to-face sessions with schools, local communities and government agencies…ensuring that all segments of society, teachers, parents, students and the public understand digital risks and know how to protect themselves,” he said.

He was speaking at the state-level campaign launch at the Taman Tamadun Islam Convention Centre, here today.

Meanwhile, Nik Kamaruzaman said the campaign has empowered students from 435 schools in Terengganu, a significant achievement reflecting the state’s commitment to making cyber safety a key educational priority.

“A total of 14,351 students participated in workshops, talks, and interactive activities. This reflects growing public awareness, with Terengganu now regarded as one of the most proactive states in digital safety education,” he said.

He hopes the initiative will pave the way for more digital literacy programmes involving parents, youth, village communities, mosques, and both government and private agencies, helping to build a safer, more responsible, and ethical digital ecosystem for future generations.

Meanwhile, a teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1, Dr Quek Soh Theng, said raising awareness about internet safety and cyberbullying is crucial, as the community has previously had limited exposure to these issues, leaving them vulnerable to various online risks.

“Such initiatives should be carried out continuously to cultivate a more ethical and vigilant generation of internet users,” she added.
