BALING, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- The second phase of the housing construction project in Kampung Bok Bak, here, to accommodate 17 debris flood victims from Kampung Iboi, is hoped to provide comfort and ensure the safety of the affected residents.

Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the replacement home project was given to the residents whose homes were previously affected by the tragedy that occurred on July 4, 2022.

"Concerned about their fate, the Federal Government approved an allocation of RM3 million for the construction of 17 new residential units, complete with infrastructure facilities, while the land acquisition process was carried out by the State Government at a cost of RM500,000.

"I had the opportunity to see the completed homes myself and I am satisfied with the quality of the construction. I hope they can provide comfort and safety to the recipients," he told reporters after officiating the Key Handover Ceremony for Flood Victims' Homes in Kampung Bok Bak, near here, today.

Saifuddin Nasution, who is also the Co-Chairman of the Kedah State Development Action Council, said the project started on March 24 last year and was completed on July 25 this year.

According to him, although there were two requests for an extension of time, the project was successfully completed with the best quality and can now be occupied by the recipients, especially in preparation for the upcoming Ramadan.

He said the good cooperation between the State Government, the Federal Government, and all parties involved enabled the project to be implemented smoothly.

Commenting on other developments, Saifuddin said the construction project for the Sabo Dam, aimed at mitigating the risk of debris flow floods in the area, has been fully completed.

"Following the worst flood that hit Baling, the Federal Government approved an allocation of RM22.8 million for the construction of the Sabo Dam. A few months ago, I visited the dam and found that the work performance was well ahead of schedule, and today I was informed that the project has been completed," he said.

On July 4, 2022, the debris flood tragedy in Kampung Iboi claimed the lives of three family members, displaced 12 families, and affected 17 other residences.

Previously, the first phase of the housing construction project to accommodate 12 affected families was completed, and all those involved had moved into their homes in Kampung Sadek, near here, in June last year.
