ASIA-PACIFIC SCOUTS URGED TO LEAD THROUGH ACTION AT REGIONAL JAMBOREE

16/12/2025 12:50 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Scouts across the Asia-Pacific region have been urged to act as leaders of today by demonstrating courage, compassion, resilience and ethical values through daily actions, said Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee Chair Major Gen (Rtd) Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zin Bidin.

Dr Mohd Zin in his address at the opening of the 33rd Asia-Pacific Scout Jamboree at Zambales, Philippines yesterday said leadership is reflected not by titles but by conduct, stressing that small acts of kindness and responsibility can have a meaningful impact on communities.

“You are the leaders of today, shown through how you help others, solve problems and act responsibly without being told,” he said in his opening and keynote address at the Kainomayan Scout Camp in Botolan, Zambales, a copy of which was made available to Bernama.

Dr Mohd Zin who is Malaysia’s National Chief Scout described the jamboree as the “largest open-air classroom in the world”, saying it provides scouts with hands-on learning experiences that promote leadership, teamwork and cross-cultural understanding.

He encouraged participants to pursue their aspirations fearlessly, noting that the values instilled through scouting play a crucial role in shaping future professionals, community leaders and decision-makers.

Highlighting the importance of collective responsibility, he called on each of the 25,000 participants to perform at least one good deed daily, which he said could create a ripple effect of positive change across the region.

The week-long jamboree, which runs until Dec 21, features cultural exchanges, outdoor challenges and interactive programmes aimed at strengthening friendship, unity and cooperation among scouts from across the Asia-Pacific.
