PRASARANA ANNOUNCES PRICE ADJUSTMENT OF RAPID KL PASSES EFFECTIVE JAN 1

16/12/2025 06:20 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- The prices of several Rapid KL travel passes will be adjusted from Jan 1, 2026, to align with the expansion of the public transport network for a more stable and sustainable long-term service.

In a statement today, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) clarified that this is the first such adjustment since 2009, prompted by rising year-on-year operational costs, and forms part of the company's ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest safety and service reliability standards.

"As part of product improvements, Prasarana is also introducing Rapid Bulanan, a new 30-day pass offering unlimited travel on Rapid KL's rail and bus services, priced at RM150 for both citizens and non-citizens," the statement read.

For the Rapid Kota passes, available exclusively to Malaysians, the new rates are set at RM10 for the 1-Day Pass and RM25 for the 3-Day Pass, while the 2-Day Pass will be discontinued.

Similarly, the Rapid Kembara passes will be sold at new rates of RM25 for the 1-Day Pass and RM55 for the 3-Day Pass from the same date. The 2-Day Pass will also be discontinued. The Rapid Keluarga pass, which is also exclusive to Malaysian citizens, has been set at a new price of RM30.

Starting Jan 1, new applications for the Rapid Pelajar (Student Pass) concession will be limited to Malaysian students only, while non-citizen students with a current pass can continue to enjoy the 50 percent discount until their pass expires or until Dec 31, 2026, whichever is earlier.

Both the My50 unlimited monthly pass and the concession passes for senior citizens (Rapid Emas) and persons with disabilities (Rapid Mesra) will retain their current affordable rates for eligible citizens.

A new Rapid Bulanan pass priced at RM150 will be introduced to cater to the growing number of expatriates and long-term visitors.

This 30-day unlimited travel pass will provide a flexible and practical option for these daily commuters.

Meanwhile, Ashok Panchalingam, acting head, Group Stakeholder Experience Management and Marketing Department, explained that the fare adjustments were based on a comprehensive review of usage patterns, service network expansion and current operating costs.

"Although a price adjustment is being implemented, Rapid KL travel passes continue to offer the best value to commuters through consistent savings, the convenience of unlimited travel, and an ever-improving mobility experience," he said in today's statement.

He added that this move aligns with the transformation of the Rapid KL rail and bus network, which is now far more comprehensive than a decade ago.

This includes the opening of the Kajang Line in 2016 and the Putrajaya Line in 2022, in addition to new bus routes, expanded coverage areas and increased service frequency.
