CABINET RESHUFFLE: ANWAR ANNOUNCES 28 APPOINTMENTS, PORTFOLIO CHANGES

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today unveiled a reshuffle of the MADANI Government Cabinet involving 28 ministers and deputy ministers, featuring a mix of portfolio realignments and new appointments.

Anwar said the exercise was intended to strengthen Cabinet cohesion and effectiveness, while sharpening its focus on revitalising economic growth and addressing the concerns of the people.

He said the adjustments were prompted by existing vacancies within the Cabinet as well as the need to enhance its collective capacity to navigate economic challenges and safeguard public welfare.

“The presence of several vacancies and evolving priorities requires measured adjustments so that the Cabinet can operate more cohesively, drive more dynamic economic growth and better resolve issues faced by the rakyat,” he said at a special MADANI Government Cabinet announcement here today.

Anwar said that only ministers and deputy ministers affected by portfolio changes or new appointments were announced, while those retaining their positions were not named to facilitate smoother media coverage.

Among the ministers, Hannah Yeoh was reassigned as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani as Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, while Steven Sim was moved to the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives portfolio.

For deputy ministerial posts, Liew Chin Tong was appointed Deputy Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad as Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, and Datuk Chan Foong Hin as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni was named Deputy Foreign Minister, while Lim Hui Ying was appointed Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development.

Meanwhile, Adam Adli Abd Halim was appointed Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib as Deputy Health Minister, Datuk Mohamad Alamin as Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii as Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, and Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan as Deputy Minister of Human Resources.

For new ministerial appointments, Datuk Mustafa Sakmud was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), Dr Zulkifli Hasan as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), and Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir as Economy Minister. 

Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, meanwhile, was appointed Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad as Plantation and Commodities Minister, Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan as Minister of Human Resources, and Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari as Youth and Sports Minister. 

For deputy ministerial posts, Datuk Lo Su Fui was appointed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Marhamah Rosli as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Chiew Choon Man as Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Yuneswaran Ramaraj as Deputy Minister of National Unity.

Sim Tze Tzin was appointed Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah as Deputy Minister of Economy, Mordi Bimol as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, and Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.

Overall, the Cabinet reshuffle involved three ministerial portfolio changes, 10 deputy ministerial portfolio changes, seven new ministerial appointments and eight new deputy ministerial appointments, making it a total of 28 ministers and deputy ministers.
