SERDANG, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Any discussions on the recognition of education certificates, including the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), must be evaluated comprehensively and objectively within the framework of the existing national education system.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the issue should not be politicised, as doing so could affect the objectivity and direction of the country’s education development.
Matters involving certificates must be assessed based on the present education ecosystem, including language, history and other relevant aspects, he added.
“Isuues like these should be considered in the context of the Constitution, the foundations of education and the National Education Philosophy to build an education system grounded in our country,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Training of Trainers (ToT) session for the General Studies (MPU) Course at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) today, Zambry said emotional approaches in debating education issues would only compromise the objectivity needed to maintain a balanced system that serves the national interest.
On Dec 12, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that any claims regarding language, whether English or the recognition of the UEC, which touch on sensitivities of religion, race and ethnicity, must take into account the status of the national language as enshrined in the Constitution.
