KOTA BHARU, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government is expected to table amendments to the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (I) 2019 at the State Assembly sitting in March next year.
State Islamic Development, Da’wah, Information and Regional Relations Committee chairman Mohd Asri Mat Daud said the bill is in its final stage after being refined by the implementation committee and reviewed by the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council’s Ulama Council.
The bill, initially slated to be tabled this year, was postponed to allow for further amendments following public feedback and to ensure compliance with the Federal Constitution, he told reporters after the State Executive Council meeting today.
In March last year, the Kelantan State Assembly approved a motion to re-enact 16 offences under the enactment that were struck down by the Federal Court on Feb 9, following a majority decision allowing a petition by lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter Tengku Yasmin Natasha Tengku Abdul Rahman.
