SMCV AND SAMSUNG MALAYSIA COLLABORATE TO ENABLE BETTER ACCESS TO REAL-TIME HEALTH MANAGEMENT

19/12/2025 12:18 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) has collaborated with Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd (Samsung Malaysia) to introduce the Galaxy Watch8 Health Screening Package, a collaboration aimed at expanding access to real-time, data-driven preventive healthcare for Malaysians through an exclusive health screening experience designed to complement the features of the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Watch8 series.

SMCV, in a statement, said the initiative comes as Malaysia continues to grapple with a rising tide of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, heart conditions and many other diseases.

According to the Ministry of Health, NCDs are the leading cause of death and disability in the country, accounting for nearly 72 per cent of all premature deaths.

“With Malaysia ranking among the world’s top 10 countries for smartwatch usage at 31.3 per cent, these devices are fast becoming everyday tools for tracking vital signs, encouraging active lifestyles and detecting potential health risks early. This collaboration bridges healthcare and technology to offer Malaysians a more holistic and connected approach to managing their health.

“By integrating real-time insights from Galaxy Watch8 with SMCV’s medical expertise, the collaboration enables individuals to interpret and act on their health data with professional medical support,” SMCV said.

The Galaxy Watch8 Health Screening Package features a series of comprehensive assessments aligned with the smartwatch’s advanced functions, including vascular load monitoring, irregular heart rate alerts, blood pressure and ECG, bedtime guidance and carotenoid measurement, all designed to help users gain a deeper understanding of their wellbeing and make informed decisions about their health.

Priced at RM1,600, the Galaxy Watch8 Health Screening Package includes:

  •  Overview Assessment: Historical and clinical examination, weight, height, BMI (Body Mass Index), vision test, blood pressure screening, resting ECG and Body Composition Analysis (BCA).
  • Blood Investigations: Full blood count, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), Blood Grouping (ABO and Rh), liver function profile, kidney function profile, lipid profile, thyroid function test, fasting blood sugar, HbA1C, and vitamin D.
  • Radiology and Diagnostic Assessment: Chest X-ray, ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), and stress test.
  • Lifestyle and Wellness Assessment: Sleep quality questionnaire.
  • Consultations: Medical officer review and dietitian consultation.

Together, these assessments validate and interpret the insights provided by the Galaxy Watch8, offering a complete health overview that combines advanced technology with professional medical interpretation.

To commemorate the launch, SMCV and Samsung Malaysia are introducing an exclusive campaign from Dec 17, 2025 to Feb 28, 2026, offering complimentary Galaxy Watch8 Health Screening Package and Samsung Galaxy Watch8 for lucky early bird purchasers (valid until Dec 23, 2025), alongside limited-time purchase with purchase (PWP) discounts for both SMCV patients and Samsung customers (valid until Feb 28, 2026).

In the same statement, SMCV chief executive officer Susan Cheow said the collaboration enhances accessibility to preventive care by making it more connected, personalised and actionable.

“By integrating data from Galaxy Watch8 with clinical interpretation, we enable individuals to make informed decisions that support long-term health,” she said.

This collaboration also highlights SMCV’s ongoing commitment to bridging medical expertise with technological innovation.

“As healthcare continues to evolve in the digital era, we believe that the synergy between advanced medical care and smart technology will empower people to take greater control of their well-being. Together with Samsung Malaysia, we are moving towards a future where healthcare is not only reactive but also proactive, preventive, and accessible,” Susan shared.

Echoing her sentiment, Samsung Malaysia Electronics’ head of Mobile eXperience Business Matthew Ng said the Galaxy Watch8 series redefine everyday wellness with purposeful innovation.

“By delivering intuitive wellness insights right from the wrist and pairing them with SMCV’s clinical expertise, this collaboration helps Malaysians take charge of their overall wellbeing through actionable insights powered by Samsung Health,” he said.

SMCV said the collaboration reflects a shared vision between SMCV and Samsung Malaysia to shift the healthcare paradigm from treating illness to maintaining wellness. By merging smart technology with clinical precision, the collaboration empowers Malaysians to proactively manage their health through continuous and preventive care.
