MELAKA JKR DIRECTED TO MONITOR PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE

18/12/2025 06:46 PM

MELAKA, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- The Public Works Department (JKR) has been directed to constantly monitor project implementation under its purview to ensure the set schedules are met.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said this monitoring is important, especially on contractors who purposely delay project implementation without good reasons, leading to sick projects.

"We do not like delayed projects or EOT (extension of time). We want all our entrusted projects to be ahead of schedule, and this is a general principle that is accepted and emphasised by the Minister (Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi) and even the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) himself.

"Most importantly, we don't want the pre-construction phase to take too long, especially since the project, such as the Women's and Children's Ward Building (of the Melaka Hospital), has already been announced to the public. Therefore, I request that the director and relevant parties always follow up and obtain information on developments so that the pre-construction project can quickly enter the implementation phase and subsequently construction," he said.

He said this at a press conference after a briefing session in conjunction with an official working visit to the Melaka JKR here today.

In line with that, Ahmad said he wanted 159 federal construction and maintenance projects with a total value of RM2.7 billion identified and implemented by the Melaka JKR, covering the planning, construction and handover phases, to adhere to the principle of projects being ahead of schedule.

Earlier in the briefing session, he expressed satisfaction with the Melaka JKR’s achievements and wanted the only sick project, the construction of the Lesung Batu Mosque in Machap Jaya, Alor Gajah, to be completed immediately with careful monitoring.

He said he had approved an application by Merlimau assemblyman Datuk Muhamad Akmal Saleh seeking immediate repairs to drains in an area that always gets flooded.

“For such cases, we have approved them. These are examples of cases that we can approve based on suitability and importance.

"If we expedite the approval for such project applications, we will eliminate a major problem experienced by the residents," he added.
