JAKIM TO CONTINUE COOPERATION WITH INTERNATIONAL ULAMA TO ENHANCE DAKWAH EFFORTS – ZULKIFLI

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 22 (Bernama) -- The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) will continue to collaborate with ulama (Islamic religious figures)  from abroad to further enhance dakwah (preaching) efforts and strengthen the formation of Islamic thought among the Muslim community in Malaysia, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

He said such collaboration is important in building a society that is not only moral and well-mannered, but also possesses dynamic and progressive thinking grounded in advanced and civilised Islamic values.

“Discussions with these ulama serve as a catalyst for structuring dakwah initiatives in a more organised and effective manner within society,” he told reporters after receiving a Mahabbah visit from Nusantara preacher Ustaz Abdul Somad and Quranic exegesis and Ulum al-Quran scholar Sheikh Dr Khalil Ismail Eliyas here today.

Zulkifli said JAKIM sees various areas of cooperation that can be undertaken, including education, the cultivation of manners and morals, as well as the development of balanced and moderate societal thinking.

“Today’s society needs the formation of thought that is wasatiyyah and ihsani, and rooted in humanitarian values and compassion, so that Islam continues to be understood as a religion that brings mercy to all of creation,” he said.

Commenting on the meeting with the two religious figures, Zulkifli said the discussions focused on efforts to shape societal thinking and to develop a community that is not only moral and well-mannered, but also dynamic and progressive in its outlook.

“So our discussions with these ulama are meant to serve as a catalyst for us to better organise and strengthen dakwah initiatives within society,” he said.
