KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- A total of 5,481 students nationwide took part in the Minecraft Education Challenge 2025, a digital initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy and environmental sustainability through game-based learning.

Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB) said in a statement today that the challenge, themed ‘Building Eco-Friendly and Disaster-Resilient Homes',  exposed students to takaful concepts, financial literacy, environmental sustainability and digital skills via the Minecraft platform.

The programme also helped sharpen critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving and creativity in a fun and engaging learning environment.

Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Microsoft Malaysia, the initiative saw participation from students in government, private and international schools nationwide.

In the same statement, GETB Chief Executive Officer Shahrul Azlan Shahriman expressed hope that the digital and interactive approach would have a lasting positive impact in shaping a generation that is financially savvy and responsive to real-world challenges.

At Great Eastern Takaful, we believe that value-based education and technology are key to shaping a responsible generation. We are proud to see the extraordinary enthusiasm shown by students in producing creative, meaningful and engaging works,” he said.

According to GETB, more than 254,000 individuals visited the competition’s official website, reflecting strong interest in the interactive and game-based learning approach.

A total of 230 Minecraft Education licences were sponsored and distributed to schools in 11 states throughout the programme to support digital inclusion.

“GETB hopes this initiative will serve as a catalyst for a more inclusive, relevant and enjoyable learning model for Malaysia’s younger generation,” the statement said.

A total of 102 winners across eight categories were recognised at the closing ceremony, which was held fully online.
