KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 25 (Bernama) -- More than one million Terengganu residents have benefited from 1,026 MADANI Rahmah Sales Programmes (PJRM) held across the state from Jan 1 to Dec 21.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Terengganu director Mohd Mufsi Lat said the programmes involved about RM14 million in federal government subsidies to help ease the cost of living burden.
He said PJRM was implemented through five models: 444 events were held within premises, open area (19) mobile events (536), market-based events (14) and 13 held in campuses.
“A total of over RM52 million in sales was recorded from the 1,026 PJRM events held between Jan 1 and Dec 21. This year, we still have about 20 more PJRM events to be organised in eight parliamentary constituencies, including within premises, at markets and through mobile operations.
“The public can follow Terengganu KPDN's official social media channels for complete information on PJRM,” he told reporters at the Back-to-School 2026 Sale and Save Smart with Terengganu KPDN programme at the Noor Arfa Craft Complex (NACC) in Cendering here today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Mufsi said over 200 stock keeping units (SKUs), including food items and school supplies, were offered under PJRM at prices between 10 and 30 per cent lower than usual.
He said the three-day PJRM, which began today, was organised on a larger scale than usual to allow people from all walks of life to prepare for the school term while purchasing daily necessities at one location.
“Besides NACC, the Back-to-School and Save Smart PJRM is also being held at 12 other locations across Terengganu. Therefore, KPDN urges all Terengganu residents to take advantage of this opportunity to save and ensure smooth preparations for their children’s return to school,” he said.
A visitor, Khairul Affendi Alwi, 38, said he managed to save about RM300 by purchasing school necessities and groceries at the PJRM.
As the head of his household, he said careful financial planning was important to avoid future financial difficulties.
“My main purpose today was to buy school uniforms and bags for my three children, who are in Year Two, Year Five and Form Two. At the same time, I bought groceries because the prices of chicken and meat here are very reasonable,” he said.
“Local beef, which usually costs RM35 per kg, is sold at RM20 per kg, while chicken is only RM6 per kg. Overall, I managed to save about RM300 today,” he said.
Another visitor, Siti Zailawati Abdul Rahim, 47, said she never missed the opportunity to visit PJRM to purchase necessities at lower prices and reduce her daily expenses.
“If there is a PJRM around Kuala Terengganu or Kuala Nerus, I will go early to buy fresh items such as fish, meat and chicken, which are sold at very low prices.
“With the rising cost of living, people need to be wise in taking advantage of the initiatives provided by the government to manage their spending,” she said.
