FLOODING EXPECTED IN PASIR MAS, TUMPAT DISTRICTS FROM TONIGHT

KOTA BHARU, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- Several low-lying areas in the Pasir Mas and Tumpat districts are expected to experience flooding from midnight tonight until Dec 30, due to continuous rainfall and river levels predicted to exceed danger levels.

The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), issued this warning today following the danger level continuous rain warning from the Malaysian Meteorological Department and the anticipated rise in the level of Sungai Golok.

Flooding is expected to occur from 12.00 am on Dec 27 until 11.00 pm on Dec 30, affecting low-lying areas within a five-kilometre radius of the Sungai Golok basin.

In Pasir Mas, the affected areas include Kampung Tersang, Kampung Lanchang, Kampung Gual To’Deh, Kampung Mak Ribi Jeram Perdah, Kampung Padang Licin, Kampung Bendang Perol, Kampung Jejawi, Kampung Siram, Kampung Banggol Kong, Kampung Bukit Lata, Kampung Gelang Mas, Padang Kijang, Kampung Kelawar, Tasik Cina, Pekan Rantau Panjang, Kampung Lubok Gong, Kampung Gual Dalam, Kampung Tok Deh, Kampung Tok Rusa, and Kampung Telaga Mas.

In Tumpat, the affected areas include Kampung Pak Keral, Kampung Kok Bedullah, Kampung Nechang, Kampung Pauh Sebanjar, Kampung Neting, Kampung Tujuh, Kubang Sawa, Kajang Sebidang, Telok Jering, Naga Ibu, Pisau Raut, Bendang Pak Yong, and Simpangan.

PRABN has warned that flooding may occur earlier or later than expected. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow instructions from authorities and disaster management agencies.
