TEMERLOH, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- The Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) is targeting 20 Agro MADANI Sales programmes to be implemented nationwide this year, compared with nine programmes carried out last year.
LKIM chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said the increase in the number of programmes is aimed at ensuring the public can obtain fish at more affordable prices, with discounts ranging from 10 to 30 per cent.
“Through the Agro MADANI Sales programme, we aim to ensure that the public has access to an adequate supply of fish at reasonable prices, while also helping fishermen and fish traders market their produce more effectively,” he told Bernama after officiating the programme at Kampung Bangau Tanjung here today.
He added that the programme also focuses on inland fishermen to ensure that communities outside coastal areas are not left out, in line with efforts to further expand the marketing of marine and freshwater fish nationwide.
At the programme, Muhammad Faiz also presented equipment, including nets and insulated containers (fibre barrels), to 13 inland fishermen, including three entrepreneurs from the LKIM Freshwater Fish Collection and Distribution Centre (CCDC) operating in Kampung Bangau Tanjung.
“Previously, we did not provide assistance to inland fishermen as it was outside our jurisdiction. Insya-Allah, we will further expand our assistance to inland fishermen who are directly involved in fish marketing,” he said.
