NORTHEAST MONSOON: JBPM CONDUCTS OVER 10,000 MONITORING, RESPONSE OPERATIONS NATIONWIDE

KANGAR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) recorded a total of 10,038 monitoring and response operations nationwide from Nov 11 last year up to yesterday following floods during the Northeast Monsoon season.

JBPM deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Ahmad Izram Osman said that during the period, the department carried out an average of 139 daily operations, including monitoring flood-prone areas, evacuating victims, conducting rescue missions, transferring patients, and providing logistical assistance to the public and security personnel.

He said the figures reflected JBPM’s preparedness, emphasising that the department remained on 24-hour standby across the country despite weather conditions being generally under control in most states.

“Even though the situation isn’t too bad right now, we’re never in our comfort zone. JBPM is always ready, especially while the Northeast Monsoon is still ongoing.

“The preparedness involves personnel, assets, SOPs and logistics, all of which have been mobilised to ensure a quick response in the event of any possible disaster,” he told reporters after officiating the Sumbangan Kebajikan Persatuan Kebajikan JBPM programme at the Perlis JBPM headquarters here today.

The programme saw 31 officers and firefighters in the state affected by last year’s flood disaster receive contributions as a gesture of concern for their well-being.

A widow of a firefighter who died in the line of duty also received a RM2,000 contribution during the programme.
