KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the Pongal celebration, to be observed tomorrow, offers an opportunity to strengthen unity in diversity and foster closer ties among communities regardless of race or religion.

In a Facebook post extending his greetings, Ramanan said unity remains the nation’s greatest strength as a multiracial society built on peace and mutual respect.

He reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising public well-being, workers’ welfare and harmony among Malaysia’s diverse communities, in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision that emphasises inclusivity, justice and shared prosperity.

“Pongal symbolises gratitude and prosperity, reflecting appreciation for the fruits of labour and blessings bestowed by God. I pray that this celebration brings good health, success, prosperity and happiness to all,” he said.

Quoting the Tamil proverb, Thai Pirandhal Vazhi Pirakkum, meaning that new paths and opportunities open with the arrival of the month of Thai, he called on all to move forward with hope and confidence towards a better future.

Meanwhile, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo also extended Pongal greetings in a post on X, saying the festival serves as a reminder to give thanks for blessings and prosperity in the days ahead.

“May this year’s Pongal bring lasting well-being, abundant happiness and better health to all,” he said.

Pongal is a Tamil harvest and thanksgiving festival celebrated to express gratitude to God for bountiful agricultural produce.
