KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Agricultural trade relations between Malaysia and the United States (US) continue to grow positively, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said.
He said the MADANI Government remains committed to ensuring that all cooperation undertaken takes into account national interests, the people’s food security and the long-term sustainability of the agricultural sector.
Mohamad said this in a Facebook post after receiving a courtesy call from US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke J. Lindberg, together with US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan and their delegation at Wisma Tani in Putrajaya today.
“This meeting reflects the close bilateral ties enjoyed between Malaysia and the United States, particularly in strengthening strategic cooperation in the agriculture and food security sector,” he said.
Mohamad said discussions covered agro-food trade, compliance with food safety standards, modernisation and the adoption of agricultural technology, as well as potential areas of cooperation that could bring mutual benefits to farmers and industry players in both countries.
“Insya-Allah, these continued efforts will strengthen the national agro-food ecosystem, boost productivity, and contribute to the well-being of the people and national economic development,” he said.
