GEORGE TOWN, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) aims to complete all PR1MA Corporation Malaysia (PR1MA) housing projects, previously categorised as sick or abandoned, by March.
Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said that when he was first entrusted with leading the ministry, 34 PR1MA projects were either sick or abandoned, but thanks to the corporation's joint commitment, all of these projects have now been fully completed.
"When I took over, there were 34 sick (PR1MA) projects, but I made a commitment together with PR1MA CEO (chief executive officer) Brian Iskandar Zulkarim, that by Hari Raya this year, which falls in March, all 34 projects would be fully completed, 100 per cent."
All these projects have obtained the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), and the keys will be handed over to the buyers, ensuring that there are no more PR1MA projects with a sick status," he said during his speech at the Ideal Venice Residency Affordable Housing key handover ceremony here today.
The event was also attended by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Ideal Property Group executive chairman Tan Sri Alex Ooi, with 20 homeowners receiving the keys to their new homes.
Nga said he was grateful for achieving the completion of the sick projects and described it as a new beginning for the country's housing sector, in line with the government's desire for a brighter start to 2026.
Brian Iskandar, who was met by Bernama after the event, said that 33 of the stalled projects had been fully completed, while only one project remained in its final stages and was expected to be fully completed by March.
Ideal Venice offers 1,632 condominium-concept residential units priced at RM300,000 per unit, each unit spanning 850 square feet and featuring three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a private balcony.
To support the well-being of residents, the project is equipped with premium facilities including a swimming pool, BBQ pavilion, exercise station, family lounge, gymnasium, basketball and badminton courts.
Meanwhile, Chow said that through the Penang2030 Vision, the target of supplying 220,000 units of Affordable Housing by 2030 has reached 170,706 units, equivalent to 77.35 per cent, and for the Rent-To-Own (RTO) scheme, 5,096 units have been realised out of the target of 22,000 units.
He also said that for Urban Renewal (PSB), a total of six projects involving 6,840 units have been identified, which will benefit over 3,000 families, thus exceeding the original target.
“This achievement proves the state government's seriousness in addressing housing issues comprehensively and sustainably, and Penang is also always committed and concerned about improving the quality of life for its people.
“Therefore, the housing aspect continues to be prioritised, especially for low and lower-middle-income groups involving the B40 and M40 categories. Various policies, initiatives, and implementation mechanisms have been drafted and consistently implemented to ensure that homeownership opportunities are accessible fairly and inclusively to the people of this state," he added.
