PM ANWAR, GOVT MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT ATTEND DEWAN RAKYAT PRE-SESSION BRIEFING

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today attended a pre-session briefing of Dewan Rakyat with members of Parliament from the Unity Government at Seri Perdana Complex here.

The Cabinet, members of Parliament and heads of government departments were seen arriving as early as 1.30 pm today.

Among the Cabinet members present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming.

The First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament will begin tomorrow with an address by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia at the opening ceremony of the meeting.

Based on the calendar on the official Parliament website, apart from the tabling of the Motion of Thanks , the Dewan Rakyat session, which will last for 20 days, will also see Members of Parliament take part in the debate on the motion for seven days starting on Jan 20.

The Parliament session will then continue with winding-up on the debate by the relevant ministers in the third week starting from Feb 4 to 10.

The Dewan Rakyat session will continue with the tabling of Bills (RUU) and other government business starting from Feb 11 to March 3.

Several new bills are expected to be tabled at this Dewan Rakyat session, including one to limit the Prime Minister's term of office to no more than 10 years or two full terms, as well as a bill relating to the separation of powers between the Public Prosecutor and the Attorney General.

The Prime Minister announced the matter on Jan 5, which is described as one of the institutional reforms that the government will implement in this year's Parliament session.

Anwar said other bills include the Ombudsman Bill 2025 and bills related to the Freedom of Information Act.
