MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN KRABI ACCIDENT SAFELY BROUGHT BACK TO M’SIA FOR TREATMENT

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- A youngster who was in critical condition following a road accident in Krabi, Thailand, on December 31, was safely brought back to Malaysia last night and will continue to undergo treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ).

The victim, Muhammad Hazim Rafiq Hussain, 21, arrived at HSJ at 11:30 pm after being transferred from a hospital in Krabi via ambulance with a full medical escort team.

Datuk Chua Sui Hau, Chairman of One Hope Charity & Welfare, said that his organisation immediately coordinated medical treatment arrangements, hospital discharge, and cross-border transfer. They also launched a simultaneous fundraising campaign as soon as the case was referred to them.

"The RM80,000 required to cover the medical costs and the transfer process was fully collected thanks to public support, allowing the transfer to be carried out in a short period," he said in a statement today.

Media outlets earlier reported that the victim's mother, Rozina @ Norhafizah Abdul Rajad, 51, said her son had travelled to Thailand on December 30 with five friends for a motorcycling trip. On December 31, 2025, the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a truck that had lost control.

As a result of the accident, the victim suffered serious injuries to his face and nose, causing breathing difficulties. This necessitated a tracheostomy procedure to deliver oxygen directly to his lungs. While he is now reported to be stable, he still requires respiratory assistance and follow-up treatment.

Meanwhile, Chua added that upon arriving at the border, the anxious Rozina @ Norhafizah was finally reunited with her son before boarding the ambulance. She held his hand throughout the journey to the hospital.

Muhammad Hazim Rafiq is currently in stable condition and is undergoing further treatment and monitoring by the local medical team.
