RPTM 2026-2035 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO STRENGTHEN NATION'S HIGHER EDUCATION - UKM

BANGI, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint (RPTM) 2026-2035, which includes placing Form Six and Matriculation Programmes under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), is hailed as a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen the nation’s education system and boost its global competitiveness.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Sufian Jusoh described the RPTM 2026-2035, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday, as a long-awaited, forward-looking initiative capable of addressing future challenges.

“One of the initiatives announced by the Prime Minister is that the Form Six and matriculation programmes will be placed entirely under MOHE. UKM welcomes this move, having enrolled its first Form Six students last year.

“As the institution spearheading this pilot programme, UKM is committed to expanding access to high-quality education for Form Six students by offering more comprehensive and impactful learning opportunities within the university environment,” he said in a statement today.

He said UKM has full confidence in the government to steer the country’s higher education and will ensure that Form Six students are given ample opportunities to develop their full potential.

“This, in turn, helps them become mature and competent university student candidates with a clear sense of career direction,” Sufian said.

According to him, the programme was designed to offer an inclusive yet challenging academic path that evaluates students not only through examinations but also through engagement in research, innovation and social responsibility.

“I am confident that, through such collaborative efforts, we can produce a generation of Form Six and matriculation students who are not only ready for university but also equipped to become knowledgeable, competitive and ethical contributors to Malaysian society,” he said.

The RPTM 2026-2035 charts a new direction  for the country's higher education based on human values, well-being and sustainability to produce knowledgeable, ethical and globally competitive individuals.

According to the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) RPTM executive summary, higher education must not only function as an economic driver, but also shape responsible individuals and societies.

“RPTM 2026-2035 will be anchored on four core values that are outlined in the Higher Education Framework: humanity-centred, holistic well-being, shared prosperity and sustainability,” according to the document.

The summary explained that the humanity-centred approach called for the balanced integration of knowledge, manners and values, with emphasis on human well-being, environmental conservation and efforts towards shared prosperity.
