N. SEMBILAN IMPLEMENTS 1,345 INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS WORTH RM431 MILLION - EXCO

SEREMBAN, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,345 infrastructure and maintenance projects were implemented across Negeri Sembilan involving all local authorities (PBT), with a total allocation of RM431 million, from 2020 to last year.

State Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar said Seremban City Council recorded the highest number of projects, with 522 initiatives implemented at a cost of RM276 million.

“It was followed by Port Dickson Municipal Council with 242 projects costing RM50 million; Jempol Municipal Council with 214 projects (RM34 million); Kuala Pilah District Council, 82 projects (RM14 million); Rembau District Council, 105 projects (RM21 million); Tampin District Council, 119 projects (RM20 million); and Jelebu District Council with 61 projects costing RM16 million.

“Among the projects implemented were the repair of damaged roads, the maintenance and upgrading of drainage systems, slope stabilisation works, and the upgrading of public facilities,” he told reporters after inspecting new road paving works here today, which was also attended by Kepayang assemblywoman Nicole Tan.

Arul Kumar said the projects were funded through allocations from local authorities, the Malaysian Road Records Information System, the state government, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Economic Planning Unit.

He said the role of local authorities was crucial, as an estimated 70 to 80 per cent of public complaints and issues fell within their jurisdiction, requiring proactive action to ensure that complaints were addressed and improvement works implemented effectively.

Meanwhile, he said revenue collected by the local authorities as a whole remained insufficient to fully meet the requirements for infrastructure development.

“Therefore, support through allocations from the state and federal governments is crucial to ensure the continuity of project implementation for the well-being of the people,” he said.
