ALOR GAJAH, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Major Mohd Fikry Amri Abd Halim and Sabrina Hakiem Zaini, 41, faced another heartbreaking loss as their second triplet, Maryam Al Khawla, passed away at 7.20 am at Melaka Hospital. The tragedy comes after the couple had already lost their first child in 2024.
Mohd Fikry Amri said that, despite the deep pain of their loss, he and his wife were at peace with Allah’s will, trusting that every hardship carries a hidden blessing.
“It’s a hard test, but we believe it is meant to help us reach paradise. Insya-Allah, our children will lead us there eventually,” he said when met by reporters at his residence today.
Born prematurely on Oct 24, 2025, Maryam Al Khawla had spent her life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to several health problems, including heart and intestinal complications.
Mohd Fikry Amri said that Maryam’s condition was initially stable but turned critical last Friday, deteriorating rapidly in just a few days.
“We visited her on Friday and she was stable, but by Monday the doctor said things had taken a turn for the worse. Everything happened so fast,” he said.
Mohd Fikry Amri said the hospital told him that Maryam Al Khawla’s death was due to a bacterial infection that quickly spread to several internal organs, leading her to lose consciousness.
During the 93 days his daughter spent in the hospital, Mohd Fikry Amri said he never had the chance to hold or kiss her due to the NICU’s strict visiting rules.
“Today, I was finally able to hold and kiss her. That was the first and last time,” he said tearfully.
Maryam Al Khawla will be laid to rest at Pusara Abadi Cemetery in Alor Gajah, beside the grave of her eldest brother, Muhammad Al Fateh.
The couple were blessed with three daughters through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), thanks to the support of the Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation (TAFF), founded on the initiative of the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Their first and third daughters are now in stable condition and doing well.
The family had previously attracted widespread attention when their eight-month-old son, Muhammad Al Fateh Amri, passed away while under the care of a babysitter at a nursery in Taman Kelemak Utama in September 2024.
