KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) will review Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s proposal to establish a special youth committee in mosques as part of efforts to enhance youth participation in mosque activities.

Minister Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the review would be carried out in collaboration with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).

“The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) fully supports the Prime Minister’s proposal to provide space for youth to plan and implement programmes that will strengthen mosques as centres for the development of the ummah and the moral growth of the younger generation,” he said in a statement today.

He said mosques play an important role in educating the ummah and nurturing their character, following the example of Prophet Muhammad SAW through Masjid Nabawi, and should be reinforced as a welcoming space for young people.

Therefore, Zulkifli said his department had carried out various initiatives, including the Kariah MADANI Programme and Kuliah Zuhur conducted by young asatizah (teachers) at the Parliament Surau

Youth involvement, he said, would also be expanded through the Himpunan Asatizah Muda Kebangsaan (HAMKA) this February, which would bring together over 1,000 young asatizah to empower the development of the ummah and share impactful knowledge.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister proposed that every mosque establish a dedicated youth committee to give young people the space to plan and implement community and religious programmes.
