SARAWAKIANS URGED TO REMEMBER ROOTS, UPHOLD STATE DIGNITY

29/01/2026 07:35 PM

SIBU, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Sarawakians have been urged to remain mindful of their origins and to uphold the dignity of the state, which has gained growing respect on the back of sustainable development and visionary leadership.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the state today stands in stark contrast to its situation two decades ago.

“Sarawak has become a focal point and a model for others. Sarawakians are no longer marginalised; instead, they are increasingly respected,” he said at the Presentation of Notices and Certificates of Appointment for Community Leaders and Village Heads for the Sibu district here today.

According to him, Sarawak’s advancement should not be judged by its wealth alone, but by the dignity, stability, unity, and mutual respect cultivated over the years.

He said the state government prioritises education and human capital development, including the provision of RM1,200 in pocket money to all Sarawakian university students, irrespective of household income.

On the healthcare sector, Dr Sim, who is also the State Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister, said Sarawak continues to register progress through the development of various medical innovations in Sibu and Kuching, as well as the involvement of local specialists who have chosen to serve in the state.

He said the state government supports the efforts to position Sarawak as a regional education and healthcare hub through collaborations with internationally recognised institutions.

“The success of Sarawak can only be achieved through unity, integrity, and cooperation from all parties,” he also said.

On the appointment of community leaders and village heads, he reminded them that their roles are crucial as they serve as grassroots leaders and a vital link between the community and the government.

“This appointment is not merely a title, but a trust and a significant responsibility that reflects the confidence of the people,” he added.
