KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) has submitted a 34-point memorandum for the government's consideration, seeking to empower the visually impaired community.
The recommendations address key areas including information accessibility, education, employment, and technology.
The matter was raised during a dialogue session with Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today.
"The meeting was conducted in an open atmosphere with insightful discussions. Many constructive views and experiences were shared, highlighting MAB's commitment to improving accessibility, inclusivity, and the future of the visually impaired in Malaysia," said Fahmi in a Facebook post.
He said one of the points emphasised was for the media to deliver information more comprehensively with visually impaired persons in mind, specifically through higher-quality and more consistent audio elements.
He said the discussion also highlighted the community's significant potential in the creative industry, which should be supported through targeted policies, training and equitable opportunities.
"This was an important dialogue and a reminder that real national progress does not leave anyone behind," he added.
