KULIM, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s reminder for the leadership of enforcement agencies to implement reforms has been described as timely.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the reminder serves as a vital guide for the agencies involved in combating national revenue leakages and curbing security threats.
“Imagine the enforcement agencies involved in controlling the nation's borders and waters; they are exposed to threats of arms smuggling, undocumented immigrants, refugees, drugs, illegal fishing activities, and encroachments by foreign fishermen.
“Therefore, incidents such as piracy, while not on a large scale, must always be kept under control. Additionally, there is the smuggling out of essential goods like rice, cooking oil, petrol, and more,” he said when met after the Kulim District Compassionate Cash Aid handover ceremony for flood victims here today.
According to him, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is open to and welcomes the reminder, and will ensure that the Prime Minister's vision is translated into action.
“When the Prime Minister issues a reminder, I then convey it to the heads of agencies in follow-up meetings and explain exactly what the Prime Minister intends,” he said.
Previously, Anwar was reported to have given a one-week deadline to the top leadership of enforcement teams to confirm their readiness to shoulder their trust and responsibilities or choose to transfer to other positions.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, stated that the readiness to continue carrying out these responsibilities can be conveyed to him personally, the respective ministers, or their heads of departments.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said that a total of 302 heads of households affected by the flood disaster in the Kulim district from October 23 to 27 last year received RM1,000 in Compassionate Cash Aid, totaling RM302,000.
“This is a translation of the MADANI government's leadership, where one of the core values is ‘ihsan’ (compassion) - showing love, sympathy, and empathy to the people facing trials,” he said.
