KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2 (Bernama) -- The nation’s arts industry has lost another luminary with the passing of veteran drama director Haris Kadir, 60, early this morning.

His death was confirmed by the secretary-general of the Malaysian Film Directors Association (FDAM), Faizal Ariff, who said Kadir died at approximately 5 am at Ampang Hospital after a battle with lung cancer.

“He had been hospitalised for some time. FDAM officials visited him on Jan 21 to monitor his condition,” Faizal told Bernama.

FDAM chairman Datuk Afdlin Shauki described the loss as profound, praising Haris as a pioneering figure who laid the groundwork for today’s generation of directors.

“He was instrumental in raising the stature of TV drama directors. His contribution was immense. He genuinely opened doors and created opportunities for the second and third generations in this industry,” Afdlin told Bernama.

Born in 1966, the late Kdir leaves a rich artistic legacy, celebrated in landmark series and telemovies including Manjalara, Misi Anak Bulan, Cinta Ibadah, Bukan Kerana Aku Tak Cinta and the Bila Hati Telah Hitam telemovie series.
