KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Police have identified that a child’s act to accidentally open the rear door of a moving car as the cause of a six-vehicle collision along Jalan Tun Razak here last Friday.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident, which occurred at about 6.15 pm, involved four cars and two motorcycles travelling from the Kampung Pandan Roundabout towards the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC).

He said preliminary investigations revealed that a two-year-old girl, who was seated in the rear passenger seat on the lap of a relative, suddenly opened the left rear door as the child safety lock was believed to be not activated.

“The action caused a Suzuki V-Strom SX motorcycle rider, who was travelling between lanes, to be unable to avoid the open door and collide with it before losing control and crashing into several other vehicles,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, another motorcyclist riding a CFMOTO 675 NK, who was behind the first rider, also failed to avoid the incident and was involved in the collision.

Mohd Zamzuri said the 25-year-old Suzuki rider sustained a fractured left arm and is currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, while the 30-year-old CFMOTO rider suffered minor injuries.

“The drivers of the four other vehicles, comprising a Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda City, Volkswagen Polo and Perodua Bezza, were not injured. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving,” he said.

Police requested witnesses or members of the public with information on the incident to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
