PUTRAJAYA, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) today received 30 new Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) engines worth RM60 million to significantly boost its capabilities.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the vehicles were acquired through a smart initiative under the Public-Private-People Partnership (4P) model to replace ageing fire engines that were over 20 years old with units that were more comprehensive and efficient.
“Today, we received 30 advanced fire engines worth RM60 million through strategic cooperation between JBPM and China, following negotiations between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese Premier Li Qiang,” he told a press conference after the Handing-Over Ceremony of Fire Engines and Ops Siaga Raya 2026 here today.
Also present were Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujin and JBPM director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
Earlier in his speech, Nga said the cooperation model pioneered by JBPM had set a new benchmark for government procurement, particularly in terms of cost management and a more efficient procurement timeframe.
“This move not only strengthens the operational capabilities of the Fire and Rescue Department, but also ensures public safety continues to be safeguarded more effectively and efficiently,” he said.
