FREEDOM OF SPEECH GUARANTEED BUT NOT AT EXPENSE OF UNITY, LAW – ANWAR

12/02/2026 01:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia, as a plural society, remains firmly committed to upholding harmony, respecting all sensitivities and always operating within the bounds of the law, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister stressed that freedom of speech and differing views are indeed guaranteed in this country, but they must not override the interests of unity and the rule of law.

“Malaysia will only continue to be peaceful and prosperous when all parties firmly uphold the values of mutual respect, comply with the rules and reject any actions that undermine national harmony,” he said in a Facebook post.

In the post, the Prime Minister also shared a video clip of his speech at the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration organised by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) here last night.
