KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping carried out his Spring Festival inspection tour in Beijing, checking on meal services for seniors, residents’ health checkups, rehabilitation programmes, and daily care.
During the visit to an elderly care service zone in Xicheng District, Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, focused on China’s efforts to strengthen social welfare and public livelihoods, according to China Global Television Network (CGTN) in a statement.
President Xi also visited a national information technology innovation park to review technological innovation. The tour highlighted key priorities, including elderly care, worker protections, and urban governance.
China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) calls for expanded basic elderly care services, stronger urban and rural care networks, and accelerated age-friendly, barrier-free upgrades to public facilities.
Outside a canteen, Xi met delivery workers, asking about their workload, income, and holiday plans, while commending their role in the functioning of urban life. He urged local authorities to improve support for workers in new forms of employment.
The president also toured the Longfusi commercial area in Dongcheng District, a historic temple fair location, observing the blending of traditional cultural elements with modern consumer experiences.
The area has undergone extensive renovation and redevelopment, reflecting China’s broader urban renewal efforts, including large-scale upgrades of old residential communities, creation of pocket parks and greenways, and revitalisation of historic neighbourhoods and industrial heritage sites.
CGTN noted that Xi’s tour underscores a people-centred governance approach, with each initiative aimed at addressing pressing public needs and ensuring cities serve as genuine homes that benefit the population.
