13/02/2026 03:52 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The recent official visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Malaysia will bring positive spillover effects to the country in terms of trade, tourism and the economy, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim briefed the Cabinet today on the visit, which saw several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed, reflecting the close and strong ties between Malaysia and India.

“We expect spillover effects, whether in tourism or the economy, to have a positive impact on Malaysia,” he said at his weekly press conference here today.

Modi undertook a two-day visit to Malaysia at Anwar’s invitation beginning Feb 7, during which 11 MoUs and documents covering various sectors of cooperation between the two countries were exchanged.

Malaysia-India economic relations continue to show strong momentum, with total bilateral trade reaching RM79.49 billion (USD18.59 billion) in 2025.

Meanwhile, Fahmi called on radio practitioners to always ensure effective communication by delivering useful and accurate information, as well as providing quality entertainment to listeners.

He said the effort is important to ensure radio remains a trusted medium in uniting society and strengthening mutual understanding and global harmony.

“In conjunction with World Radio Day, I would like to take this opportunity to record my highest appreciation to all radio personnel. Thank you to everyone involved,” he said.

World Radio Day is celebrated on Feb 13 each year, with this year’s theme being “Radio and Artificial Intelligence (AI)”.
