SABAH FLOODS: 5,036 EVACUEES AT 32 RELIEF CENTRES

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- A total of 5,036 people from 2,002 families affected by floods in Pitas, Paitan and Tawau are currently sheltering at 32 temporary relief centres (PPS) as of this afternoon.

According to a statement from the Sabah Disaster Management Secretariat, the figure marks a notable increase from 4,462 evacuees involving 1,859 families recorded earlier at noon.

“The number of flood evacuees in Paitan rose to 2,071 people from 590 families, up from 1,497 people from 447 families reported previously. All evacuees are residents from 39 affected villages in the district,” it said.

Meanwhile, the number of evacuees in Pitas remained unchanged at 2,720 people from 1,357 families, while Tawau continued to record 245 evacuees from 55 families.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms in several interior areas of Sabah throughout the morning, afternoon and evening today.
