PM ANWAR CALLS FOR RETURN OF "SANITY" IN GLOBAL POLITICS

23/02/2026 08:36 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for stronger emphasis on prudence and maturity in international politics, stressing the urgent need to restore “sanity” among world leaders.

While refraining from elaborating on current global political tensions, Anwar said his main concern regarding international affairs was the need to “bring back sanity among political leaders”, noting that although the region remained relatively stable, other parts of the world were facing serious challenges.

“May Allah give us the strength and resolve to work harder to preserve sanity, not only here but internationally.

“My main concern about international politics, which I do not want to touch upon now, is the need to bring back sanity among political leaders. Not too much in this region, but in others,” he said.

Anwar said this in his speech at the Foreign Ministry’s breaking of fast programme here today.

Also present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Anwar’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The event was also attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, as well as ambassadors, high commissioners and officials of foreign missions in Malaysia.

The Prime Minister praised the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) for its dedication and professionalism, particularly during Malaysia’s leadership role in ASEAN last year.

“He (Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin) and his team, under the guidance of the foreign minister (Mohamad) did a superb job,“ he said.

Anwar also lauded Wisma Putra for its commendable performance, saying that official visits abroad have generated tangible benefits for the country.

“Wisma Putra’s engagements go beyond courtesy visits, as they are designed to deliver tangible benefits while providing opportunities to elevate Malaysia’s standing as a trading nation,” he said.

Earlier, Anwar launched the Foreign Ministry Strategic Plan 2026-2030, which serves as the guiding framework for Malaysia’s continued engagement with nations, international organisations, and stakeholders in the next five years.
