KUCHING, Feb 27  (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Performing Arts Centre project has reached 29 per cent completion and is on track to be fully completed by June 2027.

Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the RM247 million project, which involves the renovation and reconstruction of the old Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building, is progressing at an encouraging pace.

“A site survey found that construction is moving smoothly and according to schedule. We hope the project can be completed before the 2027 SEA Games begin,” he told reporters after visiting the site today.

The centre will have a seating capacity of about 600 and will be equipped with modern, international-standard facilities to support arts, cultural and creative industry events in the state.

Sarawak is one of the co-hosts of the 2027 SEA Games, scheduled from Sept 18 to 29. The state will host the opening ceremony and 17 sporting events.
