KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) rejects the Israeli military aggression against Iran.
Its president, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, said war and coercion must never be normalised as instruments of foreign policy and that civilian life must be protected as a universal obligation.
“We reject the framing that Iran’s uranium enrichment is a sufficient excuse to launch attacks that predictably expand into regime change objectives.
“The aggression undermines the United Nations Charter’s principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity and the prohibition of unlawful force,” he said.
He told the media this today after reading out “Malaysian People’s Declaration: Rejection of War and Hegemonic Power, Defence of Iran’s Sovereignty and Call for Global Unity Against War”, issued by representatives of civil society, community leaders, youth movements and professional bodies.
Azmi called for decisive international action to prevent further escalation and to uphold justice, sovereignty and the protection of civilians, while urging Malaysians and media institutions to act responsibly in the current climate.
“We call on all Malaysians and media institutions to uphold truth, reject disinformation and maintain national unity. Public discourse must serve peace and humanitarian protection.
“Stop the escalation, reject regime change wars, uphold international law, protect civilians and return to diplomacy. This is a moment for courage and clarity,” he added.
On ongoing humanitarian efforts by the Global Sumud Flotilla, Azmi told Bernama that the proposed land flotilla would be challenging and would require strong diplomatic engagement, particularly with Egypt, which controls the Rafah crossing.
“We need the Prime Minister’s influence to negotiate with Islamic countries, especially Egypt.
“If there is such influence, we can try to ensure that the 30 containers we have prepared can enter. Otherwise, we will face difficulties,” he added.
Malaysia has strongly condemned the attacks against Iran on Feb 28 and the retaliatory attacks on several countries in the region, namely Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar.
The Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the safety of 29,112 Malaysians in several affected countries following tensions arising from attacks the United States and Israel launched on Iran, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
