DR WAN AZIZAH CALLS FOR RESPONSIBLE SOCIAL MEDIA USE

04/03/2026 03:24 PM

PUTRAJAYA, March 4 (Bernama) -- The Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, has urged all parties to be mindful of their conduct and speech, and to use social media responsibly for positive purposes amid today’s rapidly evolving communication era.

She said that while smartphones have become an integral part of daily life, they must be used responsibly and should never be used to spread fake news.

“Times have changed, and we now communicate a lot through smartphones. Let’s steer clear of gossip and controversy, avoid spreading slander and fake news. Focus on things that do good for everyone,” she said.

She said this in her speech at the Association of Wives and Women Members of the Malaysian Civil Service’s (Puspanita) Tadarus and Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony here today, which was also attended by Puspanita president Puan Sri Maheran Jamil.

Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the Puspanita Patron, expressed her appreciation to women for their unwavering dedication in fulfilling their responsibilities, both at work and at home, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

“Most of us are career women, and I am truly confident in the ability, dedication, and commitment of civil servants in carrying out their respective responsibilities.

“I pray that Allah SWT rewards those who manage to prepare iftar and sahur meals at home while also working alongside their beloved spouses to support their families,” she said.

Dr Wan Azizah also reminded everyone to avoid wasting food and overeating during Ramadan, and to take the holy month as an opportunity to deepen their acts of worship.

The ceremony began with a congregational solat sunat tasbih, followed by a tadarus session and a khatam Al-Quran (completion of the full recitation), and was attended by about 1,000 Puspanita members, comprising female civil servants from all ministries.

The event also featured a talk titled “Al-Quran dan Wanita: Inspirasi Generasi MADANI”, which emphasised the role of women in embracing the teachings of the Al-Quran and shaping a MADANI generation grounded in morals, knowledge and strong values.

Dr Wan Azizah also presented contributions of RM5,000 each to five welfare homes, as well as donations to 50 students of Sekolah Menengah Integrasi Sains Tahfiz Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan.
