PEOPLE'S STABILITY COMPASS A STRATEGIC GUIDE TO STRENGTHENING NATIONAL UNITY - J-KOM DG

05/03/2026 11:37 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 (Bernama) -- The People’s Stability Compass is more than a government slogan; it serves as a strategic framework to safeguard the wellbeing and harmony of Malaysians, said Datuk Ismail Yusop, the director-general of the Community Communications Department (J-KOM).

He said national stability does not belong to any single political party or leader, but is a shared responsibility of the government, agencies, the opposition and the public.

“Whoever is entrusted to lead the country must ensure continuity in nation-building. It should not be viewed through a political lens or partisan interests. The focus must remain on the people,” he said when featured in Bernama TV’s talk show, Ruang Bicara, yesterday.

Ismail said the government’s communications machinery must adopt creative and innovative approaches to help the public understand the policies and initiatives introduced by the MADANI Government, including efforts to strengthen grassroots wellbeing.

While numerous initiatives have been rolled out, he said their impact can only be fully realised if the public understands the leadership’s objectives and commitment behind them.

Ismail also acknowledged that one of the main challenges in government communications is public perception, with reports, including those issued by J-KOM, sometimes viewed as political propaganda.

Following the 15th General Election, he said, the evolving political landscape requires the MADANI Government to adopt a more open and mature communications approach, in line with Malaysia’s democratic development.

“If we remain bound by old mindsets or identity politics, solutions will remain elusive. Sensitive issues involving religion and race must be handled maturely, not driven by emotion or social media disinformation,” he said.

Ismail said that the government’s “new nationalism” is rooted in confidence, patriotism and unity, rather than fear or intimidation.

In navigating the challenges posed by social media, the government must manage the complex flow of information to prevent the spread of slander and manipulation, he said.

“Effective strategic communication is crucial to maintaining public stability in an increasingly complex democratic landscape,” he added.
