ALOR SETAR, March 5 (Bernama) -- A total of 150 families, comprising fishermen, farmers, single mothers, and persons with disabilities (OKU), received contributions through the Program Sumbangan Kasih Ramadan dan Syawal held at a supermarket here today.
Datuk Romli Ishak, Senior Political Secretary to the President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), stated that the recipients involve residents of Kota Setar and Kuala Kedah. This includes families listed under E-Kasih, as well as individuals not yet registered but identified as those in need.
He mentioned that each family received a contribution worth RM400 to assist them in purchasing Aidilfitri essentials, including festive clothing and preparation items.
"We hope this aid can ease the burden of recipients in preparing for the upcoming Aidilfitri. Many recipients we met today expressed their joy, especially single mothers, the disabled, and families who have lost their source of income due to accidents or health issues," he told reporters at the programme today.
Romli noted that for certain groups, particularly injured fishermen who cannot go out to sea, they often lose their source of income for an extended period.
"Some have had no income for up to a week; so with this assistance, it can at least help them prepare for Aidilfitri with a sense of cheer," he said.
One recipient, Norma Kamal, 35, from Kuala Kedah, expressed her gratitude for being selected, as her husband suffered a broken arm while fishing at sea, causing them to lose their livelihood.
"The timing is perfect because my husband's arm is broken. I was worried about how to manage our Raya preparations, but when I received the call yesterday saying I was selected for this aid, I felt so relieved," she said.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Mohd Solihin Shaikh Ahmed Yusoff, 37, described the aid as very meaningful as it helps cover the expenses of his two children, aged 12 and three, for the upcoming celebration. He added that he earns a modest income as a cleaner, while his wife is a housewife.
