IPOH, March 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 22 National Poverty Data Bank (eKasih) participants from the poor and hardcore poor categories in Perak received motorcycles through the Kesejahteraan Rakyat Malaysia (Sejahtera MADANI) initiative today to facilitate their mobility and income-generating efforts.
Political Secretary to the Finance Minister, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, said the programme was organised by the Perak State Development Office under the Perak branch of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM).
He said the programme's contributions comprised specific support equipment provided to target groups based on ICU JPM’s assessment of their economic activities and current needs.
“Some of the participants already have jobs or run small businesses but lack personal transport.
“Therefore, we are assisting them today with personal vehicles to ease their daily movement and help them sustain their livelihoods,” he told reporters after officiating the Motorcycle Presentation Ceremony under the Sejahtera MADANI Initiative at the Sungai Tapah Community Hall here today.
Muhammad Kamil said the programme is the first of its kind in Perak to focus specifically on distributing motorcycles to eKasih participants.
Commenting on the future direction of the aid programme, he said the government would continuously monitor the people's needs before deciding on the type of assistance to be channelled to them.
The Sejahtera MADANI programme is a national initiative coordinated by ICU JPM to assist poor and hardcore poor households registered in the eKasih system.
The programme integrates various aid interventions across ministries, agencies, and the private sector to eradicate poverty in a focused and holistic manner.
