AKPS COMMANDER SHOOTING: NINE SUSPECTS FREED, TWO STILL UNDER REMAND

ALOR SETAR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Nine of the 11 suspects arrested following the shooting incident, involving the vehicle of the commander of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in Bukit Kayu Hitam, last month, have been released, while two other suspects remain under remand.

Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said 10 local men and a Thai woman, aged between 22 and 60, were arrested around the Bukit Kayu Hitam area.

“Of the nine who were released, seven were granted a bond under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code, while the other two were released on police bail.

“Meanwhile, among the nine released, six were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs.

“The two remaining suspects are still being detained for further investigation,” he said in a statement today.

He said police are continuing their investigation and reviewing evidence related to the criminal incident, and that efforts to bring those responsible to justice are ongoing.

“Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to channel it to the police, via the MERS 999 hotline or by contacting the investigating officer, ASP Rosli Hanafi, at 019-202 2210, or the nearest police station,” he said.

On Feb 25, a Proton X70 carrying the commander of the AKPS Bukit Kayu Hitam, Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir, was hit by two gunshots at about 5.40 am, while he was on his way to Masjid Al Muhajirin. However, he escaped unharmed in the incident.
