LEE LAM THYE DONATES PROCEEDS FROM SALE OF AUTOBIOGRAPHY TO SALAM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- Social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye today donated RM10,000 to the SALAM Malaysia Foundation (SALAM) to support the non-governmental organisation’s volunteerism and national unity initiatives.

The donation came from the proceeds of the sales of his autobiography titled "Call Lee Lam Thye-Recounting a Lifetime of Service", which was launched in June 2022.

Lee said the donation was in line with the foundation's commitment to helping those in need through charitable and community-based activities.

"This work is a dedication to volunteerism in Malaysia, and I myself will continue to be active as long as I can move," he said at a brief donation handover ceremony at his office here today.

The donation was received by SALAM Malaysia Foundation acting chairman Datuk Yong Soo Heong.

Meanwhile, Yong said the contribution came at a timely moment as the foundation is gradually resuming operations post-COVID-19.

He said the funds would be used to support various programmes, including initiatives on financial literacy and household expense management for communities.

“The foundation also plans to organise a wellness forum to address bullying issues in schools and workplaces in collaboration with psychiatrists.

“In addition, we are designing a transportation assistance programme to help the Orang Asli community transport and market their agricultural produce from rural areas to the markets,” he said.

Lee’s autobiography chronicles his life journey, from entering politics at the age of 23 to his decades-long contributions to community service and social advocacy.
