GOVT TO HELP MSMES OVERCOME GOODS, SERVICES DISRUPTIONS FROM WEST ASIA CONFLICT -- SIM

10/03/2026 03:06 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- The government will help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) address concerns due to disruptions to goods and services following the West Asia conflict, said Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin.

Sim said that at present, the government is still conducting analysis and observing the situation more closely.

He said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had recently clarified that there will obviously be an impact on the Malaysian economy.

“We will potentially face several issues, for example, in terms of logistics and goods passing through war zones. This challenge is not only faced by Malaysia but also by countries worldwide.

“Hence, the government will try to help in case of logistics or goods stuck or halted there,” he said in the Dewan Negara today.

He was replying to a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof about the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s (MITI) strategy to mitigate the problems faced by MSMEs following the West Asia conflict, and whether the conflict would last long enough to cause MSMEs to “go out of business”.

Meanwhile, Sim said the ministry, through its officials or embassies, will assist MSMEs in addressing their concerns.

“The government will not remain silent, and we will act proactively.

“However, we need reports from embassies as well as MITI, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority’s (MIDA) attaché in the region so that appropriate actions can be taken,” he said.
