SABAH APPRECIATES NGO EFFORTS IN ORGANISING WELFARE PROGRAMMES DURING RAMADAN - NIZAM

PENAMPANG, March 11 (Bernama) -- Sabah Minister of Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan expressed appreciation for the cooperation of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations and youth volunteers in strengthening welfare activities and fostering the value of empathy throughout Ramadan.

He said the involvement of these NGOs in various welfare and community programmes, including reaching out to the underprivileged during Ramadan, not only strengthens the well-being of the people but also expands the network of cooperation between the state government and the community.

He added that the commitment also complements the government’s efforts to ensure that those in need are not left behind, but instead receive the attention and assistance they deserve.

“The state government always welcomes the involvement of active and credible NGOs in helping to strengthen the well-being of the people as well as expand the network of cooperation between the government and the community.

“I hope that programmes such as this can continue in the future and that their scope can be further expanded so that more people in need can be reached out to, not only during the month of Ramadan but throughout the year,” he said.

He said this during the Iftar (breaking-of-fast) and Ramadan Contribution programme for asnaf, orphans and single mothers, organised by the Pertubuhan Masyarakat Interaktif Suara Sabah and the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Sabah here last night.

A total of 66 recipients from various racial and religious backgrounds received contributions, including ‘duit raya’ and food baskets.

Organised for the third time, the programme is the result of strategic cooperation among various parties, including mosque committees and the corporate sector.

Nizam said the iftar programme, which reached out to those in need regardless of racial and religious background, was a clear manifestation of the Sabahans’ unity and harmony, as well as proof that the spirit of mutual respect has long been established.

Such programmes are hoped to continue next year to further enhance understanding and unity among the community, as these are among the important pillars in ensuring the smooth implementation of the government’s development agenda for the benefit of the people, he said.
