KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) -- The World #QuranHour (WQH) 2026 programme, themed “Membentuk Manusia Sebelum Membentuk Dunia”, took place simultaneously across the country today, centring on surah al-Muzammil and providing participants with a deeper spiritual reflection during the 21 days of Ramadan.
In the Federal capital, the programme was organised for the 11th year at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Mosque, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and conducted in English for the first time, reflecting the university’s status as an international-class institution.
Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, founder of the Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation (WUIF) and organiser of the programme, said the initiative was designed to ensure that participants, including international ambassadors, understood the message clearly, helping to spread the WQH wave to their respective home countries.
“This year, the WQH programme is being held in 13 locations across 10 countries, including Makkah and Indonesia, in line with the message we aim to highlight, which is to ‘Quranise’ the ummah,” he told reporters at the event.
Meanwhile, IIUM Rector Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Osman Bakar said the organisation of the WQH reflects the university’s international stature, noting that IIUM has produced more than 140,000 graduates from 140 countries.
In SELANGOR, the WQH was held at SACC Mall, Shah Alam, beginning with a tadarus session of surah al-Muzammil, followed by tadabbur led by Ustaz Hassan Basri Ali and a tazkirah delivered by Pahang deputy mufti Datuk Dr Badli Shah Alauddin.
In MELAKA, more than 5,000 Muslims, including school and tahfiz students, civil servants, and members of the local community, attended the Tadarus and Khatam al-Quran Perdana Ceremony held at the Al-Azim Mosque, Bukit Palah, in conjunction with the programme.
The Grand Imam of the Al-Azim Mosque, Datuk Muhammad Hashim Al Hafiz, led the Khatam al-Quran ceremony, while winner of the state-level Quran recital competition Mohamad Nafi' Mohamad Nor, recited surah al-Muzammil recited surah al-Muzammil.
Also present was the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, accompanied by State Education Higher Education and Religious Affairs committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman.
Meanwhile, in PERAK, around 1,500 people attended the programme held at the Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque in Ipoh.
Present at the event were the Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja Jeneral (Rtd) Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin and State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Khairudin Abu Hanipah.
Mohd Zahidi said that the WQH was a highly meaningful initiative, serving to inspire the community to develop a closer relationship with the Quran and to cultivate a culture of understanding and appreciating its teachings.
“This programme not only invites Muslims to read the Quran, but also emphasises tadabbur, which is understanding the messages and wisdom contained in the holy verses so that they can be applied in daily life and reflected in one’s character and behaviour,” he said.
In KELANTAN, Persatuan Rumah Ngaji chairman Datuk Adnan Hashim said the programme held at the As-Siddiqin Mosque in Mukim Panchor, Kota Bharu, drew over 1,000 participants.
“Previously, we held the WQH programme at the state mosque as the main venue, but this year we chose a mosque in the suburbs to encourage greater participation from the local community.
“We are seeing increasing participation from school students, which demonstrates that the programme has effectively instilled a love for the Quran, helping them understand its messages and teachings,” he said.
In KEDAH, more than 300 participants took part in the programme held at the Sultanah Bahiyah Mosque in Alor Setar, which featured various side activities, including religious talks, qasidah and nasyid competitions.
Kedah Public Library Corporation director Shahizan Affandi Zakaria said that holding the programme at different locations each year helped attract wider public participation.
In PERLIS, 309 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Putra and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Putra took part in the programme held at Masjid Al-Arifin Padang Katong in Kangar.
Masjid Al-Arifin Padang Katong chairman Sazali Saidin said that this year’s programme focused on Surah al-Muzammil to encourage participants to appreciate its profound messages, particularly the importance of drawing closer to Allah and incorporating regular acts of worship into their daily lives.
In PENANG, the programme was held simultaneously at six locations, with the main venue at tMasjid Daerah Seberang Perai Selatan Jawi in Jawi, Nibong Tebal, and was officiated by Penang mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman.
The other five locations were Darul Hannan, Penang Islamic Religious Council, Sekolah Menengah Islam Al-Masriyah, Maahad Al-Mashoor Al-Islami, Universiti Teknologi MARA Penang Branch, and Penang Prison, with a total of 1,700 participants involved.
