GOVT MONITORING WEST ASIA CRISIS, NEAC HOLDS WEEKLY DISCUSSIONS - PM ANWAR

16/03/2026 07:16 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- The government will monitor the development of the West Asia crisis and its potential impact on the national economy through the National Economic Action Council (NEAC), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"The MADANI Government will continue to closely monitor this crisis and its impact on the economy and the people and remains focused on maintaining the foundation of the country's economic resilience and ensuring that the people's livelihoods are not affected," he said on X today.

He said that following the crisis in West Asia, the Cabinet had agreed for the NEAC to monitor the matter and hold in-depth discussions on a weekly basis.

The NEAC is a high-level government body in Malaysia that coordinates the country's main economic policies and responses, especially when faced with economic challenges.

Anwar said the NEAC Meeting No. 2 of 2026 which he chaired today also received a briefing on the main indicators of the country's economy and that the overall situation is still under control.

“However, monitoring and early steps to address possible developments that may arise need to be planned now.

“In this regard, NEAC discussions will involve more active participation from industries to ensure understanding of the issues and faster and more practical proposals for solutions can be taken,” he said.
