GRAB MALAYSIA SPREADS KINDNESS AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT THIS RAMADAN

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- In a show of solidarity this Ramadan, Grab Malaysia employees, fellow drivers, delivery riders and merchant partners have rallied together through the #GrabBersamaMalaysia initiative to support families, revitalise community spaces and share meals with those in need nationwide.

Grab Malaysia’s Director of Operations and Mobility Rashid Shukor said in a statement that Grab Malaysia, in partnership with GXBank, Jaya Grocer, and the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), has breathed new life into Surau Nur Ramadhan, a community space cherished by residents of Kampung Paya Seberang in Hulu Langat, Selangor.

He said that in the spirit of gotong-royong, Grab staff, together with GXBank, Jaya Grocer, driver‑partners, delivery riders, and local villagers, joined forces to repaint, repair, and beautify the worn-down Surau Nur Ramadhan, ensuring it could again serve as a safe and comfortable space for the community.

“This surau is a central gathering place for the community during Ramadan and throughout the year. Seeing fellow drivers, delivery riders, staff, and villagers come together to restore it while fasting truly embodies the spirit of #GrabBersamaMalaysia, a community that looks out for one another,” he said.

Rashid said the surau’s restoration was part of a wider effort currently taking place at 16 locations across the country.

In addition, Grab Malaysia, together with its driver and delivery partners, prepared and distributed nearly 10,000 packets of bubur lambuk, bringing the warmth and joy of a hot iftar meal to communities from Kota Bharu in Kelantan to Sandakan in Sabah.

Recognising the vital role of families in supporting driver and delivery partners, Grab Malaysia also organised a special iftar programme in the Klang Valley, allowing partners and their families to celebrate the holy month together.

“As part of the initiative, and in collaboration with LZS, their children were given duit raya while families received daily essentials from Jaya Grocer. The event was held to honour the sacrifices of families who support Malaysia’s digital economy every day,” he said.

Meanwhile, Grab Malaysia highlighted that the spirit of patience and kindness during Ramadan was beautifully reflected in its brand film, “Sabar’s on the Way”, inspired by a real-life interaction between a delivery partner, Sabar, and a customer that touched hearts nationwide.

Rashid said that the comedy musical reimagined the classic song “Tunggu Sekejap,” made famous by the late legendary artiste Tan Sri P. Ramlee, narrating the story of Sabar’s journey as he faced a series of unexpected challenges while completing a delivery.

“The film goes beyond entertainment to showcase the effort and dedication behind each order, honouring the commitment of Grab’s driver and delivery partners and reinforcing Grab’s role as Malaysians’ trusted everyday app for food, groceries, and essentials,” he said.

He said that the brand film can now be viewed on Grab Malaysia’s official YouTube channel, while recap of the CSR activity on Instagram and on TikTok.

Rashid explained that the initiatives carried out during Ramadan exemplified Grab Malaysia’s stance that progress should bring meaningful benefits to the community.

“Our mission has always been to grow with Malaysia. Whether it is restoring community spaces or supporting our driver-partners and their families, all these efforts reflect our belief that progress should benefit the communities we serve.

“Through initiatives such as #GrabBersamaMalaysia, Grab Malaysia continues to work with partners and communities to strengthen relationships and spread the spirit of Ramadan across the country,” he said.
